NO HARD FEELINGS
You're falling.
You don't remember why you're in this situation, nor how you got here. All you know is that you're hurling through the air, increasing speed with the ground getting closer and closer to you. You've got no parachute, nobody around to help you. You've only got yourself and anything you can come up with at the moment. But make no mistake, you. are. falling.
That's how it feels, like nothing to hold on to.
Davina had always saw herself as a good judge of character. She didn't make friends with everyone, but she could spot the real ones. When she first met Bart Blackstone, he fooled her. Point blank period. He made her believe that he was going to set Bash straight, as a father. Davina imagined Bart coming in and giving the very adult Bash a spanking for acting like such a child. Hopes and dreams apparently, hopes and muthafuckin' dreams. Bart turned on her so fast it's not even funny. Actually, turns out he was never really on her side to begin with. And even though he'd already duped her, he still duped her again by making her believe that he was on his own side. Turns out he REALLY was more like his son than he lead on.
Either way she was outsmarted at Red Moon Rising, which meant the Blackstone's were running things however they wanted. She knew she couldn't run. Even if they let her out of her contract, she wouldn't want to. She still had a fight here. She couldn't leave things the way they were. That's the only reason she even mulled over the idea of visiting Bash, when she received a message from him.
It spoke about meeting with him for some kind of one-on-one. Supposedly to smooth things over but we all know how those things go. Davina fully expected Veronica to be there, probably Jenson and Bart, too. They probably wanted to gloat. All the same, Davina knew that she had dealt all the cards in her hand and she was going to need to earn some sort of draw if she stood a chance of coming out of the next round on top. Against her better judgement, she agreed to the meeting.
"I'm glad you decided to join me today, Ms. King." Bash Blackstone opened the door to his office.
Davina's heels tapped against the wooden floor as she slowly walked into the open room. She stopped in the doorway.
"You said it was in regards to my contract, didn't really leave me much of a choice." She reluctantly walked in the rest of the way, more cautious now than ever before. "Besides, you also said Veronica wouldn't be here so I assume you kept your word?"
Davina glanced around the room, but found no one and no such sign that anyone may have been here recently.
"As you can see, Veronica isn't here. Nor is Jenson, nor my father. It's just you and I here."
He stretched his arms out, inviting her to inspect further. Her eyes narrowed in on the windows for a moment but decided against appearing desperate. If she was going to be attacked, they'd do it on camera to send some sort of message. Bash adjusted his wristwatch, checking the time on it before walking over to his desk. First, he pulled the guest chair out for Davina, which more than surprised her. It was the very first time he had shown her any sort of manners. She slid into the chair as he walked around, pulling out his own chair at the head of the desk.
"So what is it, Bash? Finally payin' out my contract and givin' me the boot?"
Frantically waving his hands back and forth, "Oh no no no. I couldn't do that. You may be an awful thorn in my side, but for some reason the people love you. Firing you outright would be a bad financial move, plain and simple. For everyone involved. That's why I think we should really be working together..."
"That so, huh?"
Bash took his place in the large chair, folding his hands and placing them on the desk in front of him. As he spoke, he rummaged through the stack of papers that sat to the right. Although, there was nothing produced to Davina, so this maneuver was likely to lead Davina to believe there was some sort of report he was searching for.
"Yes, we should be making larger paychecks by working together. Instead, we've been forced to do this back and forth and over what? I think we got off on the wrong foot over a misunderstanding."
"You mean me bein' fan voted to be on a magazine cover and you givin' it to your boo? Yeah. Ain't no misunderstanding." Davina scoffs.
"We can always go about this the hard way, Davina. Your choice."
Bash crossed his arms across his chest and leaned back in his chair. Davina knew that there had to be more to the story here. She had to play this out in order to see where it was going to take here.
"And the hard way involves what? Veronica and now Jenson in your pocket? There's not much more you can do to get at me, you ain't got no power when it comes to me and what I do. I got a career outside of here."
Finally, Bash had gone back to rummaging through his paperwork, as if he was going to find something important. However, the last line made him stop in his tracks. A smirk grew across is face again, licking his thumb and fixing his hair a little. He was still doing that 80's hair quaff that was long out of style. He folded his hands together on the desk again, looking into Davina's eyes.
"About that. The House will be having a joint event with another company...a company that Kendrick Kross works for. I believe he's been the new holder of the GEW Spotlight Championship, am I right?"
Davina goes quiet.
"Maybe I'll call up ol' Kendrick, or I'll do one better and call up GEW since we already have somewhat of a working relationship from when you were Spotlight Champion. Maybe I'll book that rematch...whatever stipulation I see fit...I hear Kendrick is quite good at what we call Violent Rules here in the House."
Bash laughs and Davina rolls her eyes. She can't let Bash know that he's getting to her, so she plays it cool. She checks her nails and dangles her feet across the chair. But on the inside she is fuming. The GEW Spotlight Championship was the very first championship she's won, and she cherished her time with it. On top of that, Kendrick had pinned the third person in the match to become champion. That was fine, he became new champion fair and square by common triple threat rules, but as far as Davina was concerned there was still a lot left to be said there. Kendrick knew that himself. The thought of Bash holding that over her head made her sick.
"Are you kidding me? You'd tamper with my career outside of HoW? You out your damn mind."
"I'll do anything I want." He had a scary look in his eyes.
"And what? You're just going to tank my career in both places, is that it? If I don't, what exactly? If I don't stop fightin' back against the ridiculousness that you've been pulling here? Wow Bash, you really are a piece of work."
The look in his eyes remains, "I don't think you quite understand the predicament you're in, Davina. I need you to quite down and hush up. This is bigger than the House, bigger than GEW. I'm talking about the Agora Network. House of Wrestling is entering into a deal with a lot of money on the table that will change the face of wrestling as we know it. I'm not going to have you running around trying to ruin that for me, Davina. I just can't have that. I think you need to give this some thought. Think about who you'd be pissing off."
And there it was. The information she was waiting for. Davina paused, knowing she couldn't show her cards again, not after last time. She feigned like she was thinking it over, before turning back to Bash.
"I think you have me beat, Bash. I can't compete with that. I'll quiet down...wouldn't want to put my career on the line..."
The menacing look in Bash's eyes disappeared, and one of glee took its place. He physically slaps his knee out of joy, leaning back into his chair again. Davina feigned a smile as well, nodding her head towards him. Of course, he could never know that she was lying. But she had gotten what she came for, one more chance.
"See, I knew you'd see things my way, Davina. No hard feelings, right?"
Blackstone stood up from his chair, feeling that their meeting was a success and swiftly coming to an end. Thus, Davina stood up from her chair as well, pushing it back from the desk. Bash extended his hand to Davina. She paused for a moment, looking down at his hand. It was a second too long, giving Bash an uneasy feeling. But Davina extended her hand, shaking his.
"...No hard feelings..."
